Your master password is the key to My Login Vault. It not only protects access to the program but is also involved in the encryption of your data.
When you change your master password all your logins will need to be encrypted again. This can take a few minutes for some people especially if you have 100s of logins in your database. Changing your password can be done via the options setting.
- From the main screen select settings on the top menu bar and then select options.
- In the change password section enter your current master password.
- Enter your new password and then confirm it in the box below. Your new password must be at least 8 characters long and must contain at leat 1 uppercase letter and 1 number. It is important to remember this password must not be forgotten as it is not recoverable.
- Once you have set your new password and clicked change you will need to confirm that you wish to go ahead.
Once you have started the process you will see a box appear (see below) that will update you on the progress as it encrypts your logins.
IMPORTANT: Do not shutdown the application or the computer while this process is taking place as this can result in unrecoverable loss of data. Once the process has finished you will see a message that will notify you the encryption is complete and that the program needs to restart. You will then need to login with your new password.
